when i was a kid i was obsessed with werewolves and i tried to make up/rationalize my own lore for them, and i had this idea about why silver kills them

it was that something about werewolves’ blood was hyper-reactive with silver, so if they were shot or stabbed with it or otherwise got it in their bloodstream, it would literally just turn their blood into liquid silver. not all at once, but slowly–and of couse, the closer to the heart that the silver hit, the sooner it would stop and they’d die. meaning if they got hit in the hand or the arm, they could save themselves but they’d have to cut it off.

it only just now occurred to me what would inevitably come of that: hunters who hunt werewolves not because they’re monsters, but because they’re literally living silver mines. not killing them, but capturing them, and routinely taking blood from them so they can add a single flake of silver and suddenly have 100x more.

I love this! At first I imagined the silver being solid, forming a horrifying lattice of metal inside the werewolf’s veins.
